Chef-Boutonne

We are delighted to introduce this authentic French rural riverside park which is English owned and located in a beautiful tranquil area in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in western France. This small and friendly park is easily accessed from the A10 and N10 for nationwide travel, just 75 minutes from La Rochelle airport and within walking distance of the local market town.

Chef Boutonne is set in the grounds of a charming former mill and the excellent park facilities include a restaurant (including a takeaway menu), bar, swimming pool and terrace, laundry facilities, table tennis and a children’s play area. Snacks, cool drinks and ice cream are available and during the summer months fresh bread is delivered by request.

The busy entertainment programme includes live entertainment and quiz nights. Trips can be arranged to local vineyards and to distilleries in Cognac and kayaking on the river flowing through the park can be organised by the park management. Subletting is permitted (rental service available) and pets are welcome (maximum 2 per plot).

The flat roads around the area are perfect for walking and cycling and the local fishing lake is just 700m from the park. The local town has the benefit of banks, shops, supermarkets, bakeries, bars, restaurants, sports stadium with football and tennis, cinema with English films and a fresh produce market on Saturday mornings. The local château built on the remains of an earlier castle is well worth a visit.

The lively, sparkling seaside town of La Rochelle is just a 75 drive from the park. The town’s history has mostly involved the sea and has a great reputation for seafood, three urban beaches and a large pleasure boat marina. The city retains a rich architectural heritage and has an aquarium, a natural history museum together with arcaded walkways, half timbered houses and several lighthouses.

Beach lovers will enjoy a trip to the nearest beach at Fouras – one of the first seaside resorts in France established more than 150 years ago as a popular thermal treatment centre. The town has 3 beaches to choose from, a wide selection of cafes and shops in the town centre and a fort housing the town museum – it’s also possible to go the top of the main tower for a view across the town, sea and beach.

Children of all ages will enjoy a visit to Futurescope (1 hour’s drive) – one of France’s most popular theme parks and the only one of its kind in Europe. Set in 60 hectares of tranquil green countryside the park is based upon multimedia and offers films in giant format, 3D rides with 4D effects, games and live shows with fun for all.
