This peaceful park with rolling countryside views overlooking local vineyards is set in stunning countryside in the north east corner of the Lot-et-Garonne Department of Aquitaine and just a few minutes’ walk from the medieval town of Duras – well known for its Château, vineyards and wines. Bergerac Airport is just 40 kms from the park, Bordeaux Airport is just over 100kms away and good size plots are available for both single and twin unit mobile homes.
The facilities of the park include a restaurant which is open all day and all year and serves weekday breakfasts, lunch and evening meals every day – from a menu of the day, à la carte menu and also serves a traditional Sunday Roast. The bar and laundrette are both open all year and the swimming pool with terrace is open from April – October. There is also a small play area for children, crazy golf, table-tennis, darts and a pool table. Pets are welcome, subletting is permitted and the nearest shop is just 500m from the park.
The picturesque town of Duras not only benefits from shops, bars, restaurants, bank, doctor, pharmacy, local tourist office and weekly market – it also has wine shops with a vast selection of local wines. The Chateau hosts an annual medieval festival, wine festivals and various shows and exhibitions throughout the year – a great place to visit on a clear day to enjoy panoramic views across the Dropt river valley.
The area is ideal for walking and cycling, locally there are riding stables and tennis courts for hire and opportunities to enjoy both river and lake fishing and canoeing within a few minutes’ drive. The town of Bergerac also has activity centres for children, go karting, laser tag, bowling and paint ball and on the outskirts of the town Bergerac Aqua Park offers a selection of water activities for all ages.
The town has all the benefits of modern shops, restaurants and museums but not to be missed is the “old” town centred around Place Pelissiere with medieval streets, half timbered houses and the main square – edged with cafés and restaurants and always full of flowers.
A trip to the coastal resort of Arachon (famous for its oyster harvesting and beaches of golden sand) will take around 2 hours – the nearby Dune du Pilat is the tallest sand dune in Europe (109 metres) and has been protected by law since 1994. It is 2,700 metres long, 500 metres wide and contains some 60 million cubic metres of sand!
