A Gem of Brittany
This week we bring you our park at La Baule, near Pénestin in Southern Brittany.
This park is on the edge of the 2nd largest national park in France, Parc de la Brière – 45 minutes drive north of Nantes and 2 and 1/2 hours from Roscoff or St Malo.
This is a quiet park in romantic surroundings of woods and lakes, including a 1-hectare fishing lake, abounding in flora and fauna. The large spacious plots are from 100 to 200 square metres and there is plenty of choice of position for your home. The park is open all year, has impressive facilities including a quality French restaurant in a converted barn with oak beams and exposed stone walls, with menus to rival any local establishment.
On site residents also enjoy the heated swimming pool, tennis court, table tennis, petanque, children’s playground, indoor play room, free WiFi and fishing at the onsite lake.
Local Amenities
The nearest supermarkets, shops, banks and train station are at Pont Chateau, 7 minutes drive away. Days out offer endless opportunities for sport and leisure activities – there are 3 x 18 hole golf courses within 30 minutes’ drive, walking and cycling routes, and horse riding including beach rides.
The land that the park stands on is in the grounds is a magnificent Neo Renaissance chateau which is home to the park owners. You can sample chateau life by staying during a viewing visit as guest rooms are available!
La Baule Beach
One of the most beautiful bays in the world, is the vast La Baule beach, one of the biggest in Europe. Here you can enjoy sailing, surfing, kitesurfing and stand-up paddle boarding. The clubs along the quaysides and on the beach offer sailing lessons, courses and boat trips, so you can have fun while you’re learning.
Inland Attractions
In the picturesque pine forest there are beautiful villas which are used to host large gatherings in the summer. The ornate gables, windows and mosaic motifs illustrate the seaside fashions from different eras. There are interesting walks through the pines and guided tours of Pornichet, to discover the charm and history of the area.
There is plenty of horse riding, eating out on the terraces of the beach restaurants, sessions at the spa, bars and a casino in the evening. For shopping there is the indoor market in Pornichet and the outdoor market in La Baule, and when you go to Manuel’s to try his famous Niniches (a type of lollipop).
