El Rocio, Huelva

Welcome to our new, spacious and well maintained park located on the edge of Europe’s largest protected National Park in the Province of Huelva, Andalusia. The abundance of trees provide natural shade and the park has good facilities including a traditional Andalusion restaurant. The centre of the nearby town is within easy walking distance and the nearest airports are at Seville (approximately 45 minutes’ drive) and a short drive over the border in the Algarve, Portugal with Faro approximately 90 minutes’ drive.

The facilities of the park include a swimming pool, restaurant, bar/coffee shop, shop, laundry facilities, children’s’ play area and horse-riding a 4×4 vehicle expeditions in the National Park can be arranged. The local town is just a few minutes’ walk away and offers banks, shops, bars, restaurants, bakeries, doctors, dentists, pharmacies and vet.

The local town ‘El Rocio’ with its whitewashed houses, sandy streets and tethering posts for horses has at it’s centre a beautiful white church housing a statue of the Virgin of the Dew – the focal point of a centuries-old annual pilgrimage attended by thousands each year. The pilgrimage is also a fiesta with celebrations, fireworks, music, singing and dancing taking place over 3 – 4 days at Pentecost and many pilgrims travel by horse and wagon and wear national costume for the occasion.

The beautiful National Park is known for its wetlands, lagoons, pine forests, cliffs, shifting coastal sand dunes and miles of unspoiled beaches. The park is a sanctuary for wildlife including thousands of European and African migratory birds, horses, fallow deer, Spanish red deer, wild boars, European badgers, Egyptian mongooses, and endangered species such as the Spanish imperial eagle and the Iberian lynx. Excursions can be arranged on horseback or in 4×4 vehicles and can even include a camel ride. Every year in June the wild horses in the swamps are rounded up and taken to the small city of Almonte where they are put up for sale (the unsold horses are released back into the wild).

The nearest beach to the park is approximately 10 minutes’ drive away and the nearest coastal town (Matalascañas) is approximately 15 minutes’ drive (just under an hour from the local town by bus). The main part of the Blue Flag beach has excellent facilities including lifeguards and showers and the beach has a 4km promenade lined with good fish restaurants serving freshly caught sardines, mackerel, dab, anchovies, gilthead bream, hake, sea bass and shellfish. The bustling port of Huelva located on the mouth of the Odiel and Tinto estuary has been an important port since the Phoenicians established it as a major trading post.

The town has many pretty plazas, a wealth of seafood bars and restaurants and the provincial museum has an excellent archaeology section. Not to be missed is a trip to Seville – the capital of Andalusia – with fabulous food, Mudejar, Gothic and Renaissance architecture, Moorish walls, Roman ruins – and of course – flamenco.

As long as required – the condition of mobile home and plot must be well maintained.

11) What facilities are available on site Opening times?

The park has the advantage of a swimming pool, bar/coffee shop, restaurant, shop, laundry facilities, petanque, football, basketball, children’s play park and horse riding and 4 x 4 vehicle expeditions in the National Park can be arranged.

12) What facilities are nearby?

The nearby National Park with wetlands and lagoons is a haven for nature and animal lovers.

The local town is within easy walking distance and has a banks, shops, bars, restaurants, bakeries, doctors, dentists, pharmacies and vet.

13) Would I need to hire a car whilst over there?

The use of a car would be an advantage to enjoy the area at leisure. It is also possible to drive from the UK, arriving at Santander by boat and then by road to El Rocio. There is a bus service from the local town to the coast, Seville and Huelva but journey times are longer than by car. The nearest mainline station for access to Madrid is at Huelva (approximately 25 minutes’ drive).

14) How far are the nearest golf courses and beaches situated?

The nearest golf course is approximately10 minutes’ drive from the park and the nearest beach near Matalascanas is approximately 15 minutes’ drive.

15) How far is the site from the nearest airport?

The nearest airport is Seville Airport (approximately 25 minutes’ drive from the park). Algarve Faro Airport in Portugal is approximately 90 minutes’ drive from the park.

16) What is the weather like?

The local area has dry periods in June, July and August and the warmest month of the year is July with an average maximum temperature of 36°C (96°F).

The wettest month of the year is December and the coldest month is January with an average maximum temperature of 16°C (60°F).

17) Are pets allowed on site?

Yes – pets are welcome (maximum 2 pets per plot).

18) How long is the site open for and how long can I stay here for?

The park is open for 12 months of the year and homeowners may visit as often as they wish and stop as long as they wish.

19) Does all work on plots have to be done by site owners?

Any work on plots will need to be agreed with and approved by the park owners and there are storage sheds permitted on the park.

You contact our office with your planned travel arrangements and day of arrival with an approximate time for when you would like to view the park. There are chalets on site which may be reserved for you subject to availability. Unfortunately an appointment is necessary to view the park as this is a residential style community and we like to keep disruption to home owners to a minimum.

We do not employ high pressure sales teams and at no time during the visit will you be under any pressure or obligation to purchase. We believe that the product, once seen sells itself and if you are interested, you will contact us to complete the purchase. We will then ensure that you are given our full assistance and guide you through your purchase if required.

Your travel arrangements are booked in conjunction with our UK office subject to availability. This will be coordinated with our customer service team in Spain. We can give friendly advice and help about where and how to book your flights and car hire if required; we will arrange and reserve your accommodation (Usually payable locally on arrival at the hotel). It may be possible for us to collect and return you to Seville airport.
